She has covered sports in many of the top publications around the world. The last decade was spent in the Washington Post. The Washington Post covering football and basketball as well as multiple Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN, where she won the network two Emmy Awards. In addition, Nichols was a sideline journalist for the Monday Night Football broadcasts. After she left the ESPN network, her subsequent destination was CNN and Turner Sports. A record-breaking 1 billion viewers watched it worldwide. Nichols worked for TNT as a reporter and reporter on NBA games including playoffs, regular season as well as All Star television broadcasts. She has also worked for TBS in the capacity of a journalist covering golf and baseball broadcasts. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. marking only the second occasion in the award's 42 year history that a woman was nominated amongst the more than 200 nominees.
